Smooth and strident is the dodger.
The rascal in sable coat.
Inquisitive and diminutive through fanciful flights.
Lady Lola, his sister, berates him.
A performer and a braggart
She hoards each inch of spotlight.
With white ruff and prominent nose,
Lola, the lady, prances.
Little Bob, the dodger, going about his business.
The scallywag lurking in places uninvited
Casing storeroom and study.
Curiosity or theft, the dodger’s devilry defies comprehension.
Bob and the lady ramble
Past scrubland, through the weeds.
Forcing one to wonder
What appears behind their eyes.
Do vivid dreams spring forth
For souls such as theirs?
White and sable siblings
In a perpetual guiltless haze.
From twilight oval to family home
The twins return to rest.
Two Shetland sheepdogs, on beige linoleum floor.
